ENERGY AND SUSTAINABILITY

Measure the moulding machine separately from its auxiliary equipment.

Identify the equipment responsible for energy consumption and establish indicators that can be compared across production periods.

Technical guide: ISO 50001, energy performance indicators, baselines and real-time monitoring →

A plant-wide electricity reading does not distinguish the moulding machine, material dryer and mould temperature controller. Nor can the energy used by a shared utility be attributed to an individual cell without additional data.

ENERGY MANAGEMENT / MEASUREMENT SCOPE

An electricity bill combines loads that are worth analysing separately.

Identify the electrical feeds supplying the machine and selected auxiliaries. Comparisons require clearly documented circuits and time intervals.

AUXILIARY EQUIPMENT

Consumption of selected independent electrical feeds.

PRODUCTION

Indicators per part or kilogram where reliable quantities, mass and context are recorded.

What can be analysed?

Identify the measured electrical feeds and corresponding period. Metrics per part or kilogram require reliable production quantities or mass from the same interval.

01

Defined measurement points

Specify the three-phase and single-phase feeds to be measured. Document the included equipment and avoid double-counting a load also captured by an upstream supply meter.

02

Production and idle periods

Relate historical power and energy measurements to reliable operating states or production records. This enables investigation of loads that remain active during recorded stoppages.

03

Product-related indicators

For kWh/part or kWh/kg, use energy and production data from the same period. Specify whether total or good parts are counted, which mass is used and how shared utilities are allocated.

ENERGY MANAGEMENT · FURTHER ANALYSIS

How much energy does the cell use when production stops?

Feed-level measurement and distinction between production, waiting and heating help characterize the energy demand of the machine and its auxiliaries. Before proposing changes, identify which loads must remain active.

Injection-moulding cell with machine and auxiliary equipment connected to separate energy measurement points.

What must be documented?

The measured connection, time period, process state and included loads. Comparisons per kilogram or part additionally require matching production records.

A PLANT-FLOOR EXAMPLE

Before drawing conclusions.

If several cells share a chiller, its total consumption cannot be attributed to a single moulding machine. Additional measurement or a documented allocation method is needed, including its limitations.

APPLICATION ASSESSMENT

Define measurement points

The proposal identifies measurement points, ranges and installation requirements for review. Tests following EUROMAP 60.1 or 60.2 also require verification of the procedure and system boundary; installing meters is not equivalent to certification.
