TECHNICAL PROFILE · KERN IoP

Dr.-Ing. Miguel Garzón

CTO of PM Tec Engineering and Technical Lead at KERN IoP. Engineer specialising in advanced manufacturing, process monitoring and industrial digitalisation, with practical experience in plastics processing and production data-acquisition systems.

Education and professional background

Miguel Garzón is co-founder and CTO of PM Tec Engineering and leads technical development at KERN IoP. He completed his doctorate in engineering at the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL), RWTH Aachen University, studying discharge forces and vibration of high-aspect-ratio electrodes in die-sinking electrical discharge machining (EDM). His doctoral research combined instrumentation, synchronised signal acquisition, high-speed imaging and physics-based process analysis.

His professional background includes applied research and services for industry at CIPEM, Universidad de los Andes; industrial experience in maintenance, failure analysis and signal monitoring; teaching advanced and precision manufacturing processes; and technical writing for specialist manufacturing publications in Latin America.

At PM Tec Engineering, he leads solutions combining sensors, electronics, software and process expertise. This combination underpins the KERN IoP architecture: acquiring data at an appropriate resolution, retaining production context and providing information to investigate productivity, energy, quality, maintenance and traceability.
