Study boundary
ISO 14067:2018 provides a framework for quantifying a full or partial product carbon footprint using a life cycle approach. The indicator concerns climate impact and is expressed in CO₂ equivalent.
The study must document the product, system boundaries, data used and allocation rules. The stages included follow the goal and scope; a full assessment may cover raw materials, manufacturing, transport, use and end of life.

Manufacturing data KERN IoP can contribute
KERN IoP can link energy and production records to equipment, periods, products and operating conditions when those data are included in the installation. Temporal resolution depends on the instruments and acquisition configuration.
These records support comparisons under equivalent conditions and indicators such as kWh per kilogram or per part where the necessary quantities are available. Phase-level analysis of an injection cycle requires measurement resolution sufficient to distinguish those phases.
Interpret results on a consistent basis
To estimate electricity-related emissions, consumption must be combined with an emission factor appropriate to the location, period and study method. Shared loads, allocation between products and data quality must also be documented.
Changes in specific energy consumption require examination of product, material, mould, auxiliaries, production volume and operating state. Comparison against a baseline helps establish whether the observed change corresponds to the intervention being assessed.
Use measurements within the footprint assessment
Monitoring records are inputs to the manufacturing inventory. Assessment of conformity with ISO 14067 covers the methodology and documentation of the complete study as well as those records. Conclusions about reductions must be supported by the declared boundary and method.
To define the measurements available for your cell, see the energy measurement guide or discuss the technical scope of the project.
